ARTIST STATEMENT
I am interested in human interaction, wether it is between humans and other humans or with their surroundings. Their surroundings can range from the vast space around us to the small microorganisms that create our bodies. I believe that humans are aware of their surroundings but do not acknowledge what is going on around them. Since humans are aware of their surroundings but do not really understand it, I have taken images and abstracted them to depict the moment on looking, toughing, smelling or hearing what is going on and to question what is really there. I use textiles and printmaking to do the abstraction to help give a more graphic quality, but still have the rich colors to show the majesty in the imagery. As a human I am trying to look more at my surroundings to understand the magical world around me. I took notice that people look at things but do not stop and take the time to really look at what is in front of them. I admit that there are times when I do the same thing. By creating my images I really take the time to deconstruct and rebuild the image, during the deconstruction I get closer to my image and where it comes from.
